What is Blogging, Blogger and Blog
Are you confused about what blogger, blogging, or a blog is? This article is an attempt to de-mysterfy the blog terms. This article is an attempt to explain in simple terms, how you can get started in blogging.
What is a blog?
Basically a blog is a diary. It could be refered to as a Captians log, documenting a journey. Remember Star Trek. Each Star Trek program would start with Captain Kirk saying ‘captains log… star date…’
Well a blog is a similar thing. The word blog was originally called a web log which is an internet log of what you are writing, doing, thinking etc.
To understand how the word blog came about. It all started with the web log. Now if we do some maths
(web log) – we = b log
remove the space = blog
It’s not exactly maths, but I’m sure you get what I mean.
What do you write in a blog?
A blog can be about almost anything. It could be an update of news, reviews of products you may have bought, discussing a subject you feel very passionate about, you may have an illness or disability that you want to talk about and inform others about.
A blog is written in words so that others can read what you have to say. It can also include videos, images and links to other blog sites or website that highlights what you are saying. Or you could also be writing a blog on what you read on another blog site or website. You can call this an article review.
How does a blog relate to Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is a new way of using the internet. This involves interactivity between your visitors and you. As a result of visitor interaction, you are able to build relationships between you and your visitors.
How do visitors interact with you?
With a blog site you have the facility to allow your visitors to leave a comment. It could be something like ‘hey! you suck!’ or ‘I loved this blog because…’
It helps build a relationship with your visitors because they can interact with you by commenting on what you said, how they felt about what you said or ask a question if they didn’t understand.
What does it mean to be a blogger?
A blogger is a person who writes blogs on a blog site. In some cases a person can be a professional blogger who writes blogs and earns money from it. For example Darren Rouse is a pro-blogger. He is recognized around the world as the pro-blogger.
What does blogging mean?
A blogger may say ‘I am blogging on a blog site’. Blogging means to write blogs, like running, walking or jogging. In this case, writing blogs continuously means to be blogging.
How do I start being a blogger, blogging a blog?
There are 2 free blog sites you could choose.
WordPress.com free blog site
Wordpress is popular, but if you want to put adverts on your blog to make money, well it’s not the best choice. You’re not allowed to have adverts on WordPress.com.
Blogger for free blog site
If you want a blog that is easy to use and allows affiliate marketing, then I would suggest blogger.
You can put Google Adsense adverts and advertise Amazon.com products on Blogger.
Blogger is owned by Google. So if you have a Google account, all you have to do is go into your Google account page and click the Blogger link.
Decide what you want to call your blog site, and you’re ready to go.
You can have several Blogger sites if you want.
How to be a Pro-blogger
If you want to get serious about blogging then you will look at getting an independent blog site. An independent blog site will cost you money. Mind you it’s not all that expensive. You will need:
- A domain name
- A hosting service to host your blog site
- An opens source CMS(Content Management System) such as WordPress, which is free.
This will cost around +$100 a year
