Who Is Altiyan Childs?
To some people Altiyan Childs is a weirdo, a recluse, a hermit, a social misfit. How many of us have been teased, put down and cast aside by society? That’s the curse of being an artist.
Altiyan Childs has always wanted to be part of the fraternity of musicians. He has struggled for twenty years to fulfill his dream. He had his chance with the Australian X-Factor reality television program and it looked like he lost at the first audition.
Who is Altiyan Childs?
It is so easy for us to sit back and watch a reality TV program, such as X-Factor and be critical of the contestants who have exposed their soul to the world. My wife is an avid X-Factor fan, while I on the other hand avoid it as much as possible. Partly because, and I will be honest and blunt here, because of the pain I suffer opening up the wounds of artistic rejection.
I remember seeing Altiyan Childs performing his first audition to get on the show and it was obvious he wasn’t going to get in.
I said to my wife “It’s a shame. You can see he’s a musician. He’s passionate, He’s got the looks. He’s got a certain charisma. He must be so nervous… OMG!!! They’ve given him a second chance to perform again!”. I watched every show since then.
Ronan Keating (Boyzone) had a task before him, to nurture, mentor and show Altiyan Childs the road that leads to fame. Altiyan was also on a personal journey dealing with what I call ‘the demons of the mind’. The demons relate to the nagging, negative voices we hear in our head reminding us of the things we suffered in the past and our failures. This is something we all go through in life. Some of us can fight it, while some struggle and give up.
Half way through the shows season, Altiyan went AWOL and couldn’t be contacted. Everyone was concerned. Not just the producers of X-Factor and Ronan Keating his mentor, but most importantly, Altiyan’s fans who had grown to love him. Where did he go? What was he thinking? Had he given up on his dream?
Altiyan sought solitude in a cave. The cave was his place to connect with the universe. This was the place he sought emotional comfort, meditation and reflection on an important decision he had to make. What does he really wanted to do with his life? To some, this is a weird thing to do. But any artist will tell you, that is what we do. To me Altiyan is wise. He had a decision to make that many artists face. Do I give up? Or do I take this chance and run with it to fulfill my dream?
Altiyan made the right and wise decision to follow the path that the universe had opened up for him.

Altiyan Childs WON!!! Each contestant had to sing a song produced for the X-Factor show ‘Somewhere in the world’, that would be the winners first CD. Here is Altiyan’s version of the song.
The Inspiration of Altiyan Childs
Altiyan Childs is an inspiration for all artists, no matter what art form. He was a lost soul struggling to fulfill his dream. The universe opened a door for Altiyan because his heart was in the right place. He’s a 35 year old musician who really cares about life and has a lot of love to give to the world.
Altiyan has given hope to you as an artist to follow your dreams, never give up on your dreams because the universe will reward you. That door may not open straight away or at a time you wish it to be. But if you persist, the universe will open the door at a time you least expect.
What will Altiyan Childs do now?
Altiyan Childs has won the Australian X-Factor, he’s released his first CD. What will he do next?
Altiyan has got the ball of his dream now, I hope he runs like he’s never run before in his life.
Altiyan had a dim light when he first auditioned on the Australian X-Factor reality television show. His light has grown brighter and brighter as he fought his way to the winning post.
Now that he’s won, he needs to keep that fire burning. He needs to show the glow of his journey.
This brings the following social networking questions:
- Does he have a website or blog?
- Is he using facebook to keep his fans up to date?
- Is he using twitter so his fans can see his light?
This is what I’ve been trying to say with my blog about the power of social networking (How Musicians Can Create Fans). Artists can be stars if they have a fan base. If you have a large following of fans, the decision makers in the film, television and music industries will take note. Yes they’ll want you for your talent, but the biggest deciding factor will be because of your fans.
Social networking is the tool to build a fan base.
I know artists don’t like talking about money, but hey! Along with fame comes fortune.

Daryl, what a well written article, I totally agree with all that you said. Both myself & hubby felt the same way after that first audition, even though he forgot the words, to me he had the ‘it’ factor ie Freddy Mercury, Michael Hutchence to name a couple. My hubby usually winges about me watching these shows, but always watched & enjoyed Altiyan. Even though we are oldies still love music particularly rock.
I have also had muso friends and know how hard it is to get anywhere in the industry, sometimes just to play in pubs etc., is a win.
For the first time in my life I have trawled on facebook (Altiyan’s of course), nearly every day & even though I haven’t written anything it’s a brilliant way to keep up with everything that’s happening and keep up with how all the other fans comments etc.
